1. Open to adults 16 years and up.
2. Entries must be submitted to “Beachburg Fair Secretary”,
Box 157, Beachburg, ON K0J 1C0, postmarked by July 9, 2010.
3. Judging will be done prior to the fair and contestants must be willing to have their entries on display in the Exhibition Hall.
4. First place winning entries will be published in the Cobden Sun.
5. Stories and poems must be original and unpublished.
6. The author’s name, address and phone number must be included on the front page but must not appear on the story or poem itself. Please include the title on the front page as well.
7 Entries must be written in English on a computer or typewriter, preferably double-spaced, and the total word count or (poetry lines) printed on the front page.
8. Entries are limited to one per person per class. An entry fee of $2 for a single entry, $4 flat fee (max) for multiple entries, payable to Beachburg Agricultural Society, must accompany entries.
A short written judge’s critique will be given for each entry.
9. Judging will be done by a qualified judge. No names or identifying features are to be on the entries. Each entry will be given a number by the secretary and this well be revealed only after the judging is completed. The decision will be final.
10. Prize money can be picked up at the Secretary’s office on Sunday, or will be mailed.

Prize Money: $12, $10, $7, $4
Short Story: Fiction or non-fiction; maximum 2000 words. Open topic.

Class 50
Prize Money: $12, $10, $7, $4
A Poem: Minimum 12 lines, maximum 42 lines.
Topic: Serious or humorous, with a rural theme.

Class 51
Prize Money: $12, $10, $7, $4
A Story for Children: Minimum 1000 words
Targeted age: 6 to 12 years
Story is to have a rural theme.

Class 52
Prize Money: $12, $10, $7, $4
An Essay: Expound on a topic related to the theme of “Celebrating Our Rural Roots”. Maximum 2000 words

Class 53
Prize Money: $15, $10, $7, $4
An Acrostic story starting with : All I remember was...
The story must have 26 sentences that tell a full story (beginning, middle and end) using the sequence of the English Alphabet to start each sentence (2nd sentence starts with B, 3rd with C, etc.) The story is to have a plot and be in paragraph form, as you would for any story.
